A Few Apps For the Journey

Choose effective apps to organize life and reduce the stresses!

Smart phones, internet and the vast array of orbiting satellites provide a wide assortment of technology for the journey.

With the car-payment offering we give Verizon every month, I try to maximize it’s use! Here are few sites you may find helpful as well.

Evernote. Their elephant icon symbolizes their mission to “Remember Everything.” It has revolutionized work flow! Create notes, organize folders, add tags, and scan documents into the folders. Accounts are accessible from laptop, to desktop, to smart phone. Bonus:  once downloaded on your computer, add the little green elephant onto your tool bar. Clip websites (url or the entire page) into Evernote for access anytime, anywhere, on any computing platform. This is a free application but you can pay for the premium membership with additional storage options.

Remember the Milk. (RTM) Many to-do list options exist!! Paper notebooks, calendar planners, pocket organizers, magnetic refrigerator notes, as well as a whole host of electronic efforts. I have found RTM to meet my needs the best. It will change your personal and professional mindset. Access your account across all electonic platforms. Lists, tasks, and tags customize accounts. Due dates, repeatable events, priority levels, location to accomplish task, and even a time estimate can be attached to entries. Adding items to RTM removes them from my brain. Ahh… the peace.

Hootsuite.  With the growing social media world, Hootsuite refreshingly brings order to my chaos! All on one screen are tabs for twitter, facebook, LinkedIn, and rss feeds. You can customize the tabs with twitter lists, facebook news feeds, and more. But wait…there’s more! Hootsuite allows you to schedule tweets, status updates, etc across all social media platforms for all times of day and night.

YouVersion. The entire Christian Bible, in many different downloadable versions,  in one place! You can search, highlight, make notes, compare translations all on one site and on multiple platforms. Way cool!

Google Sky. Absolutely amazing smart phone app for exploring the night sky! The website offers incredible images to explore further.

Geocaching. Want a new activity for your whole family, office, church or community group?? Try geocaching! Download the app on your smart phone, turn on your gps, and go! Discover a new world of secret caches and muggles in this real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. It’s legal, global and an awesome adventure for all ages. If you see “Case Family” on a log, that is our family! Best finds: search for microcaches!

Additionally, Mint.com bundles personal budgeting and finances in one site. Mindmeister offers excellent brainstorming and mind mapping capabilities.

I would love to hear about others! What apps and software help you in the daily journey?

We love geocaching, too! (In fact, my debut release surrounds a fictional geocaching event). You’ve listed some of my fave apps. Others include ShopShop (shopping list–now I never forget my grocery list on the counter at home!), Kindle, my bank’s app, highway cams for our mountainous highways, a QR reader, and the Locavore app, for finding locally grown food.
